The recent Paperwise Webinar was an informative session designed to take attendees on a comprehensive journey through the company’s achievements in 2023. It was followed by an exciting preview of the roadmap for 2024. Key highlights included an in-depth look at advancements in intelligent capture technology, which promises to revolutionize how businesses process and manage information.
The webinar, led by Paperwise’s product manager and director of product development, brought invaluable insights and forward-thinking perspectives throughout. The webinar concluded with a Q&A session which allowed participants to explore topics of interest in greater detail.
Paperwise’s 2023 Overview
Paperwise begins the first portion of the webinar by giving an overview of everything we’ve accomplished in 2023 while also offering a brief refresher on our Symphony platform and its extensive capabilities. The platform, our flagship product, combines a process automation engine with document management components for searching and importing documents. From there, the webinar dives into all the elements added to Paperwise over the last year:
Document Packet Import: These preconfigured packets allow users to import a configuration file, informing Paperwise about the expected packets and their contents.
Index Tab: Paperwise developed a new index tab for transportation customers. Users input search criteria, hit the index button, and get relevant items. This feature is now a separate tab in Symphony, ensuring clarity between search and indexing. Users can also check if there are documents in the queues.
Customizable Homepage: Users can access their company’s information in a setup similar to an intranet. It’s branded specifically for their company and allows them to create training links.
Annotations: Users can now view, modify, and edit Paperwise annotations created in Paperwise applications. This includes annotations in the query, send to, and Imagewise.
Shared Document Links: Users who usually email inquiries can now utilize Symphony to access large documents and track document views. Symphony enables the creation of shareable document links that can be conveniently shared via text or email.
Document History – Different events that occur on documents are now logged in document history.
Document Management (DM) – DM file cabinets, groups, users, and other settings can now be managed in Symphony.
Blockly: Custom blocks have been added that better combine process forms with existing file cabinets.
Our 2024 Roadmap
After our overview of Paperwise’s achievements in 2023, the webinar then shifted its focus towards the exciting roadmap for 2024. The product manager and director of product development provided an informative rundown of the upcoming features and updates that users can expect from Paperwise in the next year. Here are some key highlights:
Q1 to Q3: Steady Improvements to Symphony
The roadmap kicks off with a focus on continuous improvement of our flagship product, Symphony. The first three quarters will see updates to existing features and functionalities, ensuring that users receive the most efficient and seamless experience possible. This includes new enhancements and feature additions to annotations, mobile styling, and the DM interface for mobile devices.
Q3: Release V8 Enterprise Application
We will be unveiling the V8 Enterprise Application, marking a significant leap forward with the introduction of Paperwise. This consolidated application merges Query, Send-to, and ImageWise into one streamlined platform. This integration eliminates the hassle of navigating between multiple apps for different tasks, introducing a unified workspace where users can effortlessly switch between functionalities through an innovative tab feature.
With this update, users also benefit from an automatic login for smoother workflows. Moreover, we are focusing on removing redundant features and polishing existing functionalities to better meet user needs.
Q4: Undertaking New AI Projects
Our R&D team is set to innovate within the realm of AI, explicitly targeting enhancements in intelligent capture through advanced technologies like Positional OCR and standard full-text OCR. This latest initiative aims to refine accuracy and data understanding significantly in our Paperwise platform. Recognizing the complexities of such an upgrade, we’re committed to a meticulous auditing process for customer-specific code and automation, ensuring a seamless transition and potentially offering tailored enhanced solutions.
Intelligent Capture Powered by Machine Learning
As for this portion of the webinar, we discuss how we are enhancing DM with our AI-powered positional OCR technology. This tool detects and extracts text based on location and classifies documents, facilitating data extraction for indexing and integration into various systems. A key feature is its learning capability; when uncertain about data extraction results, the system queues them for user validation. As users correct these results, the machine learning component adapts, fine-tuning its knowledge for better performance in future tasks.
This learning process is particularly effective for documents with high variability, remembering user corrections to improve recognition of similar documents later on. The benefits are clear: significantly reduced time spent on document indexing and preparation, making it a vital part of accounts payable, invoice review, and approval processes. We encourage you to discuss with your Paperwise Account Manager how this intelligent capture solution can streamline your operations.
Q&A Portion of the Webinar
Which features have customers asked for the most this year?
This year, customers have primarily requested app consolidation for a more streamlined experience. In response, we’ve implemented a notable feature: users can drag and drop documents into the query picklist, automatically opening the send-to tab with the appropriate file cabinet. This enhancement simplifies document handling and is part of our shift towards a singular, integrated app, making implementation easier for our users.
Will native scanning become a feature this year?
During the webinar, it was discussed whether Paperwise would introduce the ability to scan documents directly into the database from a scanner this year. We are optimistic about developing this feature, which would likely necessitate an interface to facilitate the process.
Will Drag and Drop Between File Cabinets Become a Feature Soon?
Regarding the possibility of enabling drag and drop functionality between cabinets, we confirmed that this is a straightforward feature to implement and is part of our development plan.
